There’s a certain kind of thrill you get when you meet somebody famous. “Did that really happen?” You know it did, but you can hardly believe it! Then, of course, you want to tell everybody about it.
And that’s the idea behind “That Time I Met…”
“That Time I Met…” started as an episode concept for Ben Eisen’s excellent long-running music podcast, “All Time Top Ten.” Having been a guest on the podcast several times, I was always trying to come up with interesting themes for future appearances, and one of those ideas was “Top Ten Musicians I’ve Met.” Alas, when I pitched it, Ben told me he was ready to start winding down “ATTT.”
But the concept was too good. I knew it had to find a life of its own. And so, here we are.
Rather than talking about all the people I’ve met, my goal is to shine the spotlight on others. Different voices, different stories, the same kind of enthusiasm that comes from these kinds of meetings. Sure, I’ll share a few of my stories along the way, but really, this podcast is about you and the amazing stories that came from your encounters.

about the host
When I was a child growing up in Chicago, I thought the only stars I’d ever see were the ones in the night sky, since my early career aspirations were to be an astronaut or an astronomer.
But that changed dramatically in my teens, when my career path shifted toward radio and I decided to go to college in Los Angeles. (I met my first celebrity, “WKRP In Cincinnati’s” Gordon Jump, on that freshman year flight to L.A.!)
In Los Angeles, I worked at several radio stations and networks, along with a newspaper that covered the music industry. Eventually, I became the writer/producer of two syndicated radio shows, “FOX All Access” and “The Countdown with Walt Baby Love.” Then, for a time, I helped create videos for FOX Broadcasting’s marketing department.
Through all of those jobs, I wound up meeting hundreds, if not thousands, of celebrities: musicians, actors, directors, and more.
Most recently, I decided to leave L.A. and the entertainment industry to take on a completely different kind of challenge, I now live in China, where I teach English to high school kids who often question my sanity when I tell them about what I used to do for a living.
